History of the hotel

A few decades ago, the Hotel Santer began to evolve from a small Pension to a much-loved meeting point for guests from all over the world. Pepi Santer und Paula Schwingshackl, the parents of Herbert Santer, the present owner, inherited the small Pension in Dobbiaco Nuova which at that time bore the name of “Villa Santer”. They had two children: Hedy and Herbert. Hedy went on to open a “Trachten” (traditional South Tyrolean clothing) boutique while Herbert, who had in the meantime married his wife Godelieve, took over the Pension from his parents. Through hard work and an eye for detail, the couple converted the Pension into a Health and Romantic hotel in just one year.
Today they are ably assisted by their son Jürgen, head chef at this romantic hotel in the Dolomites. The Santer family was completed with daughters Saskia, Stephanie and Nathalie and her husband Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, multiple Olympic champion from Norway. All sisters share a passion for cross-country and are or have been part of the Italian national team in cross country and/ or biathlon.
