| The origin of hay baths |
| In the past, families got together around the warm stove during the long and freezing cold winter evenings. Grandfathers had a privileged seat; they were the only ones who could sit in the cosy “hay nook” which they made themselves from their old wicker hay basket. Originally used as a carrier, it came in handy here, too. Nestled beside the stove, enveloped by the scent of the aromatic herbs, one could lie back in comfort and simply enjoy the warmth. The hay collected from non-fertilized Alpine pastures contains many essential oils that give off beneficial effects when heated. Indeed, hay baths are still in use today to revitalise and detoxify our bodies while gently stimulating the cardiovascular system. |
